What to expect at the counter.
If you have only ever bought meat off a supermarket shelf, a real butcher counter can feel like you are supposed to already know things. You are not.
Nothing is pre-cut
Steaks get cut to your thickness while you wait, and deli meat gets sliced how you like it. Ask for something specific — that is the entire point of a butcher shop.
Ask how to cook it
Every person behind this counter cooks what they sell. Ask about heat, timing or resting and you will get a straight answer, not a shrug toward the internet.
Best times to come in. Weekday mornings are quietest if you want to take your time. Saturdays are busy and cheerful. During deer season the afternoons get hectic, so call ahead if you are dropping off an animal.
